Results at CSU Long Beach (9/28-29/24)

ModernBrain was the 2nd place overall squad, even though a large portion of our varsity students competed with their schools instead of under our name (which we encourage). Despite this, we were the top academy. We achieved this result despite sending a majority of middle schoolers to this high school contest, which drew 130 schools from 13 states.

  • Novice Informative: Maanya Kaur – 1st, Carl Liu – 2nd, Janet Zhao – 3rd.

  • Novice Original Oratory: Sofia Patel – 1st, Rachel Huang – 2nd, Sophia Lin made semifinals.

  • Novice Impromptu: Vivian Mei – 2nd, Sofia Patel – 4th, Melody Mo – 5th, Saura Charlu – 7th.

  • Novice Dramatic: Melody Mo – 3rd.

  • Novice Declamation: Shivani Bansal – 4th, Madelyn Tan – 7th.

  • Novice Policy Debate: Gloria He and Daniel Lu made semifinals. Eugene Kim, Lucas Yang, Tony Li, and Ethan Yan made quarterfinals. Katie Chen was 9th speaker.

  • Novice Lincoln-Douglas: Benjamin Haselhuhn made octofinals and was 2nd speaker.

  • Varsity Informative: Kathleen Hong – 1st, Anna Yan (Northwood) – 7th, Meera Kalluraya (Archbishop Mitty) made semifinals.

  • Varsity Spoken Word Poetry: Iris Ye (Peninsula) – 1st.

  • Varsity Impromptu: Luna Bouhairi (Northwood) – 3rd, Sissi Wang (a middle schooler) and Meera Kalluraya (Archbishop Mitty) made semifinals.

  • Varsity Oratory: Luna Bouhairi (Northwood) – 5th.

  • Varsity POI: Natalie Hong – 7th.

  • Varsity Extemp: Claire Liu and Avelyn Jing (Harker) made semifinals.

  • Varsity Lincoln-Douglas: Ethan Yang (Monta Vista) was 9th speaker and made quarterfinals. Justin Ding, Jason Huang, and Rhea Sreedhar (OCSA) made double-octofinals.


Results at National Online Forensics League (Async) (9/30/24)

ModernBrain was the top overall team by far, winning elementary and middle school sweepstakes and tying for first in high school.

  • Elementary School Platform: Isaac Lei – Gold, Grant Chien – Silver.
  • Middle School Impromptu: YuQiao Shao – Gold, Carl Liu – Silver, Tianni Gong – Bronze.
  • Middle School Interpretation: Katelyn Li – Gold, Tianni Gong – Silver, Robyn Lai – Bronze (top elementary schooler).
  • Middle School Declamation: Sissi Wang – Gold.
  • Middle School Platform: YuQiao Shao – Gold, Carl Liu – Bronze, Siying Wei – Bronze.
  • High School Mock Trial: Krystal Deng – Gold, Christiana Garcia – Silver.

ModernBrain was the top elementary school team (with more sweepstakes points than the rest of the competition combined).

ModernBrain was the #1 academy, taking 3rd place. We went undefeated, splitting rounds against the recurring top teams in the contest and sweeping the others.

Results at Damien (9/15/24):

We sent a squad of mostly middle schoolers to this high school contest, where they exceeded expectations and excelled against top competition.

  • Novice Policy: Roger Jiang, Victor Yang, Lucas Yang, and Chuchi Zhang made octofinals. Gloria He was 4th speaker.
  • Novice Lincoln-Douglas: Kamille Le made semifinals. Ben Haselhuhn, Emma Lisowski, and Rena Zhuang made quarterfinals. Kamille was 2nd speaker, Ben was 4th, Rena was 5th, Emma was 8th.
  • Varsity Lincoln-Douglas: Jason Huang was 4th speaker. Rhea Sreedhar made octofinals.

We sent individual students to these contests instead of our whole squads, but we're proud of their results!
