ModernBrain's Semester in Review (Fall 2024)

As we wrap up another incredible semester at ModernBrain, we’re thrilled to share the triumphs and milestones of our outstanding students across Speech, Debate, and Mock Trial. From elementary to high school, our K–12 students have proven—time and time again—that hard work, supportive coaching, and a winning mindset lead to unparalleled success. No matter the event, ModernBrain speakers have soared past local, national, and international competition. Read on for the highlights!

By the Numbers

Our students earned over 550 awards, including over 100 championships, since August of 2024.

Since 2020, they have earned over 4,400 awards, including over 1,000 championships.

International Mock Trial League: Global Champions

In the largest mock trial competition of the year—featuring 40 teams from Canada, China, Florida, California, Washington, and beyond—ModernBrain completely dominated. Our teams clinched 1st through 4th place, with several honorable mentions for both attorneys and witnesses. Notable achievements:

National Speech & Debate Tournaments: Sweeping the Field

National Online Forensics League (NOFL) –

• ModernBrain secured 13 NOFL sweepstakes awards since August (nine of which were top team championships).
  

National Contests

• At Claremont Bargain Belt, we were the #1 team.
• At CSU Long Beach, we were 2nd overall out of hundreds of programs--again, the #1 academy.
• Our compact team took 3rd place nationally, with multiple students fully qualifying or earning bids for NIETOC, at the MASQ.
• At La Costa Canyon, we took 5th overall with fewer speech competitors than many large teams—proving quality coaching beats quantity. We were the #1 academy.

California Leagues

• Our students, often representing their home schools but still coached by ModernBrain, stacked up trophies and earned bids to the national Tournament of Champions (TOC) and NIETOC.

Debate Dominance: Policy, Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum & More

Collegiate in New York

• Our Policy students swept 1st and 2nd place, also capturing top speaker awards.

Texas Circuits with BrainMaster

• Our Texas-based partner teams topped their local contests in Lincoln-Douglas, Public Forum, and World Schools Debate.
• Novice Lincoln-Douglas: Wins and high speaker awards at Centennial Titan, Plano West, Rock Hill, Coppell Debate Academy, and more.

California League Tournaments

• Multiple top placements in Congress, LD, PF, and Parliamentary Debate.
• 1st place in Congress (Western Bay Forensics League), among many standouts across the region.

Model United Nations: Shining on the Global Stage

Beyond speech and debate, ModernBrain’s MUN students have taken top honors from SOCOMUN to Malaysia to PACMUN.

• Elizabeth Lu earned a Merit Award in Malaysia.
• Students from Pacific Academy, coached by ModernBrain, brought home Commendations and Outstanding Delegate titles, even competing at college-level MUN events.

More Mock Trial Victories: From Yale to Empire Worlds

• At Yale Mock Trial, ModernBrain was the #1 private academy, placing 3rd overall.
• At Empire World Championship (Stardust), we ranked 9th in the world, with Christiana Garcia earning top attorney and witness awards—1st overall witness in the world!
• Our novices and JV squads repeatedly outperformed experienced teams from across the globe.
